Instructions
-
In the first field, enter your search string.
-
For Mapquest, enter in the format Street, City, State or
City, State.
-
For translations and HTML validation, enter a URL.
-
For Bible, enter a passage reference (e.g. John 3:16) or a list
of such references delimited by commas.
-
For Yellow pages, enter in the format
Name, City, State.
-
In the second field, enter as much of the identifier string as necessary
to distinguish it from all others. For example, al for Altavista,
D for Definitions, AMG-S for AMG-Songs. (Use the letters
that are in bold in the list above.)
-
Hit the return (enter) key.
-
As a concession to some who complained (you know who you are),
I added a menu so you can use the (ack!) mouse to select your search engine.
If you use it, you'll need to use the mouse again to hit the
Go button.
-
Note: if you go the typing route, you can tab between the fields. You
don't need to click with the mouse to move to the text fields. This is true
in general of browser forms and also all dialog boxes in Windows and Mac OS.
Why do it this way?
- I don't like navigating to all kinds of different sites to do my
searches. I like having everything in one place. But having lots of
search boxes on one page is ugly. And making sure you use the right one
can be difficult
- I don't like having to use the mouse to select from a menu or hit a
button. My wrists started doing a lot better when I learned to stop
using the mouse and start using the keyboard as much as possible.
