Skeletons In The Closet

Home

I live in sunny Northern California, with my new bride, Mary. We were married in August of 1999.

Mary's page is here.

Work

I used to work as a UI Programmer for Silicon Spice, a startup company in Mountain View.

School

I attended UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and Bethany Bible College. I pursued degrees in Computer Science, Psychology, and Theology. I did Ph.D. research (incomplete) in the area of Information Visualization.

Play

My favorite activities are listening to and performing music. I play piano and guitar, and I once for a short time I played in and produced a Christian "rock" band.

I enjoy square dancing with the Stanford Quads, Sunnyvale Singles, and PACE, and round dancing with Rhythm Rounds and Dancing Shadows.

I've dabbled in photography.

Mary and I like to take road trips. In 1998, we drove to Portland for a square dance convention. Our 1999 honeymoon took us all over California. Almost every year, we've gone to Extravaganza in Oxnard over Thanksgiving weekend, and McCloud in the summer. In 2003 we visited all the National Parks in Utah, and more. In 2004 we went to Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. In 2005 we drove to San Antonio, Texas for the URDC Convention.

We also occasionally fly for travel, but I don't care for it. In 2000 we went to Scotland, and we spent a weekend in the Berkshires before coming home. That same year we also went to San Diego for the first time. In 2004 we went to San Diego again for Matt's graduation from boot camp. We also flew to Disneyland for one day to celebrate Mary's birthday, which was a blast. In 2005 we flew to Jacksonville, North Carolina to meet Matt when he returned from his first tour of duty in Iraq. Most recently, we flew to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to do hurricane relief work with CityTeam.

We'd like to take a grand road trip across the country, perhaps "checking off" all the states we've never visited yet. Hopefully we'd be able to dance all over the country too. We'd like to drive to Alaksa, possibly in the summer of 2006. Overseas, we'd like to visit Italy, Paraguay (Mary's brother is a missionary there), Hungary and Uganda (our church has missionaries there), Scotland again, and maybe Ireland too.

Opinion

Why I don't go to church.
Note: this article was true in 1998 when I wrote it, but not any longer.
